Early Childhood Professional Learning (ECPL)
Tammy King works for Early Childhood Professional Learning (ECPL), a project of The Center: Resources for Teaching and Learning in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She is the Program Manager overseeing ECPL’s work related to preschool English learners. Most recently, she was the Project Lead for the PDG B-5 English Learner Identification Project.
Tammy has 25+ years of experience in education focused on supporting culturally and linguistically diverse children and families. She has served as a bilingual classroom teacher and ESL/bilingual program coordinator, where she was an early adopter of the WIDA resources when Illinois joined the K-12 WIDA Consortium in 2004. She co-authored the book "Implementing Effective Instruction for English Language Learners: 12 Key Practices for Administrators, Teachers and Leadership Teams" published by Brookes. Since 2005, she has created and delivered hundreds of trainings for educators, presented at national, state and local conferences and taught graduate level courses to in-service teachers. In 2019, she spearheaded extending Illinois' partnership with WIDA to include preschool.
Tammy serves on several state level committees in order to advocate for preschool English learners and their families, including the KIDS Advisory Committee. She has a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership/School Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University.
