Biography

Dr. Elmar Eidelpes is a full-time staff scientist at the Used Fuel Management Department at INL. He joined INL in 2019, after obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Utah (U of U). During his research at the U of U, Dr. Eidelpes focused on research related to the structural integrity of SNF rods under hypothetical accident conditions of transport. His subject matter expertise includes storage and transportation of SNF, mechanical performance of SNF under dynamic loading, Type B packaging designs, linear and nonlinear finite element simulations, structural dynamics, and probabilistic risk assessment.
