Biography

Dr. Charles Bryan is a geochemist and a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories. He has more than 25 years of experience in the field of nuclear waste storage and disposal. He is currently working on spent nuclear fuel storage, assessing the potential for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of SNF dry storage canisters. Dr. Bryan is evaluating the environments that form by the deliquescence of salt aerosols on the stainless steel canisters, using field sampling, thermodynamic modeling, and experimental evaluations of brine properties and brine stability.
