Biography

Sam Durbin received his Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is currently assigned to the Advanced Nuclear Fuel Cycle Technology department as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff. Since joining Sandia National Laboratories, Dr. Durbin has participated in several multi-disciplinary research efforts including Z-driven inertial fusion energy and zirconium fires in spent fuel assemblies. His more recent research has focused on the simulation of spent nuclear fuel in dry storage including particulate depletion from postulated fuel releases and quantification of residual water in storage canisters after commercial fuel drying cycles. He has almost two decades of experience in the design, analysis, and conduct of large-scale test series.
