Biography

Mark Abkowitz is a Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Abkowitz specializes in intelligent transportation systems; risk assessment; community and infrastructure resilience; and geospatial analysis of critical systems. Dr. Abkowitz was appointed by President George W. Bush to the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board. He received the Charles Hochman Lifetime Achievement Award, conferred by the National Academy of Sciences, and has been inducted into the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. He is also the author of Operational Risk Management - A Case Study Approach to Effective Planning and Response and also The World According to Humpty Dumpty - The New Normal of Managing Risk.
