Biography

Mr. Andrew Orrell joined the Idaho National Laboratory in 2019, serving as a SNF/HLW Technical Consultant. Prior to INL, he spent five years as the IAEA Section Head for Waste and Environmental Safety, responsible for development and implementation of safety standards for waste management, decommissioning, and remediation. Prior to the IAEA, Mr. Orrell was Director of Nuclear Energy Programs for Sandia National Laboratories, responsible for development initiatives involving the nuclear fuel cycle. With over 30 years of experience he is versed in the technical and policy issues surrounding transportation, storage and disposal of radioactive waste.
