Biography

Dr Matteo Barbarino is a senior fusion expert at the IAEA. He leads the IAEA’s activities on fusion energy research and technology and the IAEA’s cooperation with ITER, PPPL, MIT, ASIPP, and other stakeholders. Before joining the Agency, Matteo was a research scientist at labs in the USA and in Europe where he conducted experimental and theoretical studies on laser fusion. Matteo is the technical adviser for the International Group of Legal Experts on Fusion Energy (FELEX) and a member of ITER and IEA fusion committees. Matteo earned a PhD and MSc in Physics (specialization fusion) from Texas A&M University and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Catania.
