Abstract

This research intends to Analyse MedPlus supply chain network, identify the major operation bottlenecks and track the solutions equipped with the tools and data to improve the performance and service levels. Using the method of descriptive case study of MedPlus distribution, inventory techniques, traffic and store linkage with primary and secondary data. Operation of real network modelled scenarios in AnyLogistix simulation application, a distribution center, new paths by which goods are delivered or a reshuffling in the internal or external network structure can be achieved with a minor adjustment — up to 300 or 400 hours per year — which may not apply to ‘Konigsberg’ criteria. Systemic elasticity and durability are assessed by KPIs such as average delivery time, cost of carriage (transportation / logistics), Profitability, Top Line Sales and Service levels. These findings are expected to provide actionable insights for improving the omni-channel supply chain for MedPlus and enhancing its local competitive position. The paper adds to the scant literature on SCM focused on Indian pharmaceutical retailing and demonstrate the potential of simulation-based decision support to improve MedPlus Mart supply chain design in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
