Biography

Diana Bonilla is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Northern Illinois University focusing on science education, bilingual education, and teacher education. She holds a PhD in curriculum and instruction in mathematics and science education from the University of Illinois Chicago, and her research examines curriculum for bilingual youth while braiding critical pedagogies of science, language and cultural responsiveness. She was a high school science educator for 8 years, teaching all levels including in the TBE program with a Bilingual Endorsement. She draws from her curricular development and teaching experiences to support educators in creating transformative and culturally sustaining curricula for students to be seen, be heard, and thrive, while bridging science, culture, and language in teaching and learning.
