Biography

Dr. Van Buskirk earned a Ph.D. in Applied Experimental and Human Factors Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Her research interests include adaptive training, instructional strategies including feedback, human performance, and performance assessment. Wendi is a Senior Research Psychologist at Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) in Orlando, FL. During her 25-year tenure, she has lead research programs at the basic research (BA-1) through Advanced Development (BA-4) to develop empirically sound instructional strategies, methods and systems to provide effective training for the aviation, surface, sub-surface, and Marine Corps communities. Dr. Van Buskirk is also the lead of the Simulation and Training Research to Improve Knowledge & Effectiveness (STRIKE) laboratory. Dr. Van Buskirk and her team have a strong record of transitioning their research to the Fleet. In particular, her training system transition record has earned her recognition and numerous awards including the Admiral Luis De Florez Team Award, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Commander’s Team Award, NAVAIR Commander’s Innovation award, and NAVAIR Commander’s Science and Technology Award. Finally, Dr. Van Buskirk regularly presents at conferences, has published in academic, peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
