Dr. Ryan W. Pontier is associate department chair and associate professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Florida International University. A former 2nd and 3rd grade dual language teacher in the Rio Grande Valley of TX and in Miami, his research interests focus on translanguaging, teachers' instructional practices in support of multilingual learners, and teachers' language ideologies. He is currently the principal investigator for a 5-year, $2.5M National Professional Development grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant supports PreK-2nd grade teachers and paraprofessionals in their work with multilingual learners by creating translanguaging classrooms.
