East Leyden High School
Emmett O'Keefe is in his 12th year of teaching overall, and his 10th year of teaching in the Leyden Township district. In his career at Leyden, he has taught in both the Social Studies and Multilingual Learner Departments. He currently serves as one of the team leaders for the US History team and teaches US History, AP Government, and Honors Economics. In his career at Leyden, he has worked on a curriculum redesign for US History that involved authoring summative and formative instructional outcomes, assessments, and daily tasks, as well as co-creating the Latin American Studies Course that now serves students at both campuses. In addition to teaching, he has sponsored the On Common Ground (Gay-Straight Alliance) Club and is a volleyball coach for both Boys and Girls Volleyball. He has also worked with Dr. Carol Lee at Northwestern University on her project called Sensemaking in the Disciplines, about developing disciplinary literacy skills in the social studies classroom.
