Biography

José Marcial is currently a Materials Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). His research focuses include investigating the rate of melting of nuclear waste feeds, investigating the chemical durability of Hanford low-activity waste glasses, and studying the corrosion behavior of bronze-age archeological samples as analogues for glasses buried in near-surface environments. This research has involved the use of techniques such as electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and synchrotron X-ray absorption.
