Biography

Joe Hriljac is the Science Group Leader for Crystallography at Diamond Light Source, responsible for overseeing the activites of 4 of the synchrotron X-ray beamlines. His research interests include the synthesis, characterisation and testing of inorganic porous solids for ion exchange as well as the use of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction and scattering techniques more widely for materials characterisation. He completed his PhD in Chemistry at Northwestern University followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford prior to moving to Brookhaven National Lab as a staff scientist in 1989, then to the University of Birmingham in 1996 where he became Reader then to Diamond in 2019.
