Biography

Dr. Yan is a hydrogeologist with 25 years of experience in hydrologic system and remediation. He currently serves as Department Head of Hydrology, Remediation, and Risk-based Restoration at Argonne National Laboratory and a Senior Fellow of Northwestern-Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on modeling of hydrologic processes and contaminant fate and transport, groundwater remediation, and machine learning applications for emerging contaminants and hydrologic system. Dr. Yan provides leadership on a wide range of research activities including climate/hydrologic risk analyses; advanced technologies for characterizing hydrologic systems and contaminant migration; design and optimization of innovative in-situ remediation technologies; and integrated studies for interdependencies among climate, water, energy, and ecosystem.
