Biography

Dr. Pablo L. Martínez Torres is the former World Languages Curriculum and Foreign Exchange Specialist for Polk County Schools, where he directed the design, development, and implementation of the Spanish Curriculum Maps, textbook adoption process, and other district initiatives since 2014. Pablo led the reculturing process of shifting the methodology from grammar-based and audiolingual approaches to proficiency- and performance-based approaches in Polk County World Languages classrooms. He has encouraged and trained teachers on innovative strategies geared towards meaning acquisition and classroom climate improvement, such as Comprehensible Input, Virtual Reality, TPRS Storytelling, Free Voluntary Reading, MovieTalk, Tech Apps, Brain Breaks, and Flexible Seating. He articulated the Spanish for Administrators Program in Polk County Public Schools, focused on teaching Spanish to principals, assistant principals, counselors, deans, and behavior interventionists on school safety-related topics. He is the current president of the Florida Foreign Language Managers of Education-WL District Supervisors (FFLAME) and the 2021 FFLA President-Elect. Pablo was the recipient of the World Languages Supervisor of the Year Award in the state of Florida twice in 2017 and 2024. Dr. Martínez is also the Director of multiple Dissertation Writing Committees of the Second Language Research Ph.D. program at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. He holds a bachelor’s in Secondary-History from the University of Puerto Rico- Río Piedras Campus, a master’s in international policies from Troy State University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Florida Southern College. Dr. Martínez’s research interest is leadership structures and principals’ instructional leadership.
