Biography

Dr. Julian Ortiz received a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Universidad de Chile and a Ph.D. in Geostatistics, from University of Alberta (Canada). He is a Competent Person registered under the Chilean Mining Commission. Dr. Ortiz has led a successful academic career with positions at Universidad de Chile and Queen’s University (Canada), where he was Head of Department. In 2024 he joined University of Exeter (UK) as the Mark Cutifani / Anglo American Chair in Mining Innovation. He has also worked as a entrepreneur and consultant for over 25 years. He is the co-founder and CEO of Annapurna Suite, a Canadian technology company that provides SaaS (software as a service) automating and streamlining resource modeling and mine planning with cutting edge cloud technology.
