Simon Jerome is Head of Radiochemistry within the UK’s National Physical Laboratory Radioactivity Group. He started his career at LGC in 1977 and from 1982 he worked in the Radioactivity section of LGC, measuring radionuclides in the the Thames river. From there, he moved to the CEGB, measuring fission and activation products in nuclear power station effluents. Then he moved to AWE, analysing debris from nuclear weapons tests. His last move in 1989 was to NPL, where he started the UK radioactivity measurement proficiency test programme. He now works on actinide standards, certified reference materials, radionuclide production and nuclear forensics.
