Biography

Randy Scheele is a Staff Chemist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory with over 41 years of research investigating methods for nuclear fuels recycling and managing radioactive wastes. Using thermoanalytical and calorimetric methods, he has investigated the thermal reaction stability of simulated Hanford high level radioactive wastes containing nitrates and nitrites mixed with fuels such as ferrocyanides and organic complexants, and investigated the thermal hazards of the potential use of sugar and cellulose as reductants for nitrate during vitrification of radioactive wastes. In addition he has used thermoanalytical techniques to investigate the use of nitrogen trifluoride for volatile fluoride reprocessing.
