Biography

Bobbie Gilliam has a Master of Science degree in Nuclear and Environmental Engineering and is a qualified DOE Safety Systems Oversight (SSO) nuclear engineer for Vital Safety Systems at the Savannah River Site's H-Canyon and HB line. During inspections of the aging sand filter tunnels, he was the technical expert supporting the Facility Representatives to determine the technical adequacy. He followed a multi-year iterative process that required several attempts to deploy upgraded robotic crawlers to perform structural investigations. He explains the lessons learned, which enabled the contractor to perform the required inspections for a successful structural evaluation.
