Emile Mukiza is a chemist and environmental engineer with passion for waste management. He is currently completing his PhD at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre in collaboration with Ghent university. His broad interest is on radioactive wastes (pre)disposal and management. His PhD research focuses on the immobilization of cesium and strontium by geopolymer. It mainly investigates how heat and radiation from radioactive cesium and strontium decay affects the mineralogy, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the cesium and strontium-bearing geopolymer waste form.
