Biography

Currently senior advisor with French RWMO Andra, Jean-Michel Hoorelbeke has 40 year experience in the design and safety of radioactive waste management facilities in France and abroad. His expertise includes storage, disposal and holistic and graded approach of waste management from VLLW to HLW. He successively acted as scientist and department head with the French Atomic Energy Commission from 1982 to 1993, Andra’s project manager for the Cigéo geological disposal project from 1993 to 2007, Andra’s projects and programmes deputy director from 2007 to 2015 and Andra’s safety, environment and waste management strategy deputy director from 2015 to 2020.
