South Carolina State University
MSIPP student, Joseph Glover, gained extensive environmental remediation research and safety experiences in the field at SRS and in S.C. State University laboratories. Joseph achieved a full understanding of the scope of environmental research ranging from safety protocols to volatile organic compound (VOC) sample chain of custody security. His comprehensive training was gained from SRNS mentors through classroom and field lessons on heat-stress safety and other safe work practices. Joseph participated in three modes of VOC plume sampling: pumped piezometer bottom water; augered hyporheic sediments; and passive diffusion bags. His laboratory experiences included introduction to Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry and procedures for extracting microbial rRNA .
