Biography

Sarah Schaefer has spent her career finding solutions for and managing waste, starting with design and operation of sanitary landfills, to operation of low-level waste disposal sites, to operating and managing legacy nuclear material in the world’s oldest operating nuclear facility. Currently President/Project Manager for SNC Lavalin/Atkins at Isotek Systems LLC, managing the U-233 Disposition Project in Oak Ridge, TN. She led the completion of the U-233 direct disposition campaign in 2017 a year ahead of schedule and, in 2022, led the startup of U-233 dissolution at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the extraction of medical isotopes.
