High Commissioner to Atomic Energy Patrick Landais holds a Ph.D in geochemistry. He joined the CNRS in 1987 and became Research Director in 1991. He was appointed as scientific Director of Andra in 2001 where he defined the scientific strategy for the geological disposal project. In 2013, he became Scientific Director of the French Geological Survey. In 2016 he returned to Andra as Chief Technology Officer. He has published more than 100 papers, and received in 2013 a Grand Prix of the French Academy of Sciences. In January 2019 he has been appointed High Commissioner to Atomic Energy, an independent authority in charge of advising the government.
