Dr. Challa has been the residency program director for the Duke University Department of Ophthalmology since 2001. He has helped develop and administer the department’s previous K12 program. He has also served on resident, fellowship, and medical student admission committees as well as the AAO’s Resident Education Committee. He has also mentored numerous medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, and post-docs.
Dr. Challa provides comprehensive glaucoma care including medical and surgical management with an emphasis on the management of complex glaucoma. His research interests include studying the genetic basis of glaucoma development and identifying the molecular mechanisms of glaucoma development. He studies trabecular meshwork physiology and aqueous outflow regulation in the eye and has developed animal models to study these pathways.
