Biography

Dr. April Maa was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada before moving to Houston, Texas at age 12. She completed university at McGill in Montreal, before attending medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and finishing her ophthalmology residency in Dallas at UT Southwestern. She has worked for the VA system (first Atlanta and now Minneapolis) since graduation from residency. She loves to serve Veterans and her passion lies in access to care, telehealth, and reduction of healthcare disparities. She currently holds multiple national roles within the VA system, including serving as the national co-lead for VA eye telehealth and one of the specialty care consultants for national VA Office of Primary Care. Her research interests include development of new telehealth programs, predictive analytics, and artificial intelligence.
