Biography

Andrew G. Iwach, MD is an associate clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Iwach is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and was its Secretary of Communications. He has served on the Academy's Committee on Medical Information Technology and currently serving as a spokesperson. Dr. Iwach is an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, the Executive Director for the Glaucoma Research and Education Group, Executive Director of the Glaucoma Center of San Francisco, Co-Founder of the Eye Surgery Center of San Francisco, and Co-Founder of Glaucoma 360 New Horizons Forum. Dr. Iwach is also a Board Member with the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company. He specializes in glaucoma treatment. In 1984, Dr. Iwach received his medical degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He completed his ophthalmology residency at Stanford University Medical Center in 1988. After completing his glaucoma fellowship with Dr. Robert N. Shaffer at UCSF in 1989, he joined the Shaffer Medical Group as a glaucoma specialist. He also is past Research Director, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President and the current Chair of the board for the Glaucoma Research Foundation in San Francisco. He has published 70 articles in peer-reviewed clinical and scientific journals and has lectured extensively on glaucoma in the United States and abroad. Dr. Iwach serves on various boards of ophthalmic organizations and publications. He is a recipient of the Life Achievement Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
