Biography

Dr. Shikha Gupta has always been a hard-working doctor, enthusiastic to learn new things and very meticulous with her patient care. She finished her medical school, junior residency and fellowship in Glaucoma at Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, the apex institute of Bharat, where she has now gone on to become an Associate Professor. Her active areas of interest include medical and surgical therapies for glaucoma, specifically for childhood glaucoma. Her coveted work on functional MRI in amblyopes and healthy children brought her laurels by fetching her the Young Investigator Award at Asia ARVO 2011 summit, best scientific poster award at American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2010 and was recognised as best thesis work at All India Ophthalmological Society 2012. Currently, she has focussed herself towards caring for patients suffering from childhood glaucomas. They require a life-long commitment, which itself speaks of her dedication to patient care. She is currently performing aqueous angiography for young babies and complex adult glaucomas, in order to help find out the causes of distal pathway outflow stenosis in these eyes, in concert with international collaboration for which she was awarded Roche collaborative fellowship from ARVO in 2021. She has a number of surgical innovations to her credit, in glaucoma, some of which include external jugular vein compression aided gonioscopy assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) for children, ICG-aided GATT, inverted angstrom sign for cannulated Schlemm’s canal on iOCT, innovative techniques for cyclodialysis repair, namely, modified sewing machine technique, dual endo-cyclotamponade, the rising crescent sign etc and in management of malignant glaucoma. She is also currently doing genetic analysis in primary congenital glaucoma, Axenfeld Reiger Syndrome, and young-onset angle closure glaucoma patients and has many intra and extramural funds. She has a number of high-impact clinical science publications (>190) to her credit at such a young age, in the ‘glaucoma’ speciality, with her H index being 26. Her research has been recognised, time and again through various national and international awards, the prominent ones being AIIMS International Award (2021), WGC Best Video (2016), APGS best paper) 2020, Asia ARVO best paper, AAO best poster etc.
