Biography

Dr. Alicia Renix is a veteran educator, leader, and teacher-educator with more than 20 years of experience spanning middle school, K–12 administration, early childhood education, and higher education. Her career began in middle school classrooms, where she developed a deep commitment to instructional excellence and culturally responsive teaching. She later transitioned into school administration and early childhood leadership, strengthening her expertise in curriculum, teacher development, and family engagement. Dr. Renix has also served as an Adjunct Professor at both Howard University and Trinity Washington University, where she taught and mentored future educators across undergraduate and graduate programs. She is now the Director of Teacher Education at Howard University, leading the preparation of the next generation of teachers with a focus on equity, practice-based learning, and community-centered partnership. In this role, Alicia oversees field placements, clinical supervision, and program innovation for both elementary and secondary pathways. A passionate advocate for children—particularly children of color—Dr. Renix believes that every learner deserves the highest levels of excellence in teaching and learning. She is committed to preparing teachers who are identity-conscious, reflective, and equipped to meet the diverse needs of today’s classrooms. Under her leadership, Howard’s Teacher Education Program has strengthened its international and bilingual internship opportunities, ensuring that seniors gain global perspectives and real-world experience in multilingual, multicultural settings. Across all stages of her career, Dr. Renix has remained grounded in her belief that great teaching changes lives. She continues to champion educators who are committed to justice, compassion, and high expectations for every child.
