Biography

I am a glaucoma specialist and currently a faculty working at the University of Texas medical branches. I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. I completed my medical school at Shahid Beheshti Medical School, and due to my valedictorian status, I directly joined the ophthalmology residency program at the same university. Afterward, I became a faculty member of the ophthalmology department at Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran. I have been teaching medical students, residents, and fellows of ophthalmology for more than 15 years; I have been director of the glaucoma division for 13 years, and program director of the ophthalmology division for 7 years. I have corresponded in 100 + publications and introduced novel glaucoma shunt procedure techniques. I have been in academic practice mainly in the field of Glaucoma for more than 15 years and performed different types of glaucoma procedures. I also completed a year of glaucoma fellowship at Shahid Beheshti University, and later I did a combined Glaucoma and Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship with Dr. Harry A. Quigley and Dr. Neil R. Miller at the Wilmer Eye Institute in 2003-2004. In 2019, my family and I decided to immigrate to the USA and continue our careers in the US. Since then, I have passed all three USMLE steps, received my ECFMG certificate, and also completed my MBA degree (with a concentration in Health Care Management/Administration) at Westcliff University in Irvine, California. To acquire a US medical license, I needed to practice in AUPO-accredited fellowship programs for a minimum of one year. Hence, I have completed a clinical Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship program with Dr. Andrew G. Lee in Houston in 2021-2022. Between 2022-2023, I have been working as a glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology faculty at UAMS and have done a variety of laser and glaucoma procedures there. I moved to UTMB IN 2023 and currently working as a glaucoma faculty there. I hold a USA permanent residence permit and will become a US citizen later this year. As my main experience has been concentrated on glaucoma, I am keen to focus and continue practicing in this field.
