Biography

Dr. Julia Neumann received her Ph.D. in Chemistry in Germany in 2021, where her research on the retention of actinides by alumosilicate phases supported risk assessments of deep geological repositories in crystalline rock formations. After a 2-year postdoctoral position at Argonne National Laboratory, where she worked on unraveling the structure of mineral-fluid interfaces in concentrated brines, she is now an early career staff scientist in the Heavy Element Chemistry and Separation Science group at Argonne, studying the inorganic and physical chemistry of transuranic elements in reduced oxidation states, including colloid formation and their reactivity, using optical and synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy and scattering techniques.
