Dauren Sarsenbayev is a PhD student at MIT specializing in nuclear waste management and reactive transport modeling. His work focuses on developing methods to harness anthropogenic geothermal energy from spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and high-level waste (HLW). In addition, Dauren investigates anion exclusion in clays, a key phenomenon that affects the mobility of long-lived, highly mobile radionuclides like Cl-36, I-129, and Se-79.
