Mike O'Kane brings over 25 years of holistic and detailed closure planning experience to all stages of a mining project. His approach enables opportunity to develop and communicate transparent and concise risk-based decisions around mine waste management and mine closure design / implementation. Mike is an expert on application of geochemistry and unsaturated zone hydrology to closure of tailings, waste rock, and heap leach storage facilities. In 2015, Mike received a University of Saskatchewan Alumni Achievement Award for “Global Development of his Business and Corporation, and Philanthropy”. Mike is the author of over 150 conference and journal papers focusing on mine closure planning, tailings and waste rock management, as well as landform and cover system design, implementation, and performance monitoring. OKC, under Mike’s leadership, develop technical guidance documents on cover system and landform design for mine waste management that are utilized by industry for mine closure planning.
