Wright State University
Tiffani Spaulding is a third year medical student at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Public Health from Drexel University in Philadelphia. After graduating from Drexel, she matriculated to the Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, where she received her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education. Her interest in eye health has been present from a young age and she aspires to become an ophthalmologist once graduated from medical school.
Tiffani has a background in pharmaceutical, women's health, HIV/AIDS, and ophthalmology research, and is passionate about the role of research in improving health outcomes. She worked as research co-op at Johnson and Johnson, where she helped to test and develop powder formulations for orally dissolving tablet medications. Later, she joined Emory University’s PRISM Health Research team, where she helped compile a directory of PrEP providers in the United States. This directory was used to develop what is now known as the CDC’s HIV PrEP Provider Data and Locator Widget. Tiffani also worked as a clinical research coordinator on several Atlanta-based studies where she helped to offer accessible women’s health visits, provided PrEP prophylaxis, and provided HIV counseling.
After leaving Atlanta, Tiffani worked as a data manager in ophthalmology clinical trials research where she focused on interventions for Stargardt's disease and Usher syndrome. Currently, she works on several community, academic, and professional ophthalmology projects that focus on studying and improving eye health outcomes among vulnerable populations.
Outside of her research-related efforts, she has committed herself to addressing the COVID-19 pandemic through service on her local COVID task force, supporting COVID testing initiatives, and conducting county contact tracing. Additionally, Tiffani’s commitment to diversity and inclusion has led her to strive to reduce both academic and health disparities. Tiffani serves on the Admissions Committee, as well as several academic steering committees, where she impacts diversity and inclusion initiatives, curriculum development, and participates in recruitment efforts. She continues to mentor current and prospective medical students from underrepresented backgrounds through various community programs. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, DIY activities, and growing her indoor garden.
