Biography

Haneul Jung is a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) and Data Science. Her passion for education research stems from the deep gratitude she holds for the educators and resources that supported her as a first-generation ESL learner growing up in North Carolina. Currently, she is conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Franco-Jenkins at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, exploring how English Language Learners and students with disabilities differ in their math beliefs. As a research assistant at the RAVE Lab at UNC, she contributed to the development of a culturally relevant, bilingual online math game designed to reduce math anxiety and enhance math self-efficacy among Spanish-speaking elementary students. Through her previous internship with the State Board of Education at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, she observed firsthand how education policy is shaped and implemented at the state level, which deepened her understanding of the importance of applying research to practice. She aspires to become a researcher whose work informs and strengthens education policy to improve educational and life outcomes for all children.
