Biography

Mr. Leonard Sanchez was born and raised in Southern California with his three brothers by their single mother. His father served two terms in the Vietnam War. Although absent during his childhood, their relationship was mended in adulthood. Mr. Sanchez has been married for 30 years to his beautiful wife Yvonne and they have two daughters, Olivia and Sophia. Mr. Sanchez graduated from Chaffey High School in 1989, He earned an AA degree from Chaffey Community College, transferred to Cal State San Bernardino, earning a BA in English, then earned two teaching credentials from California Baptist University in Riverside, Ca. Mr. Sanchez is now in his 24th year of teaching high school English (19 at his alma mater Chaffey). After working for 12 years at Stater Brothers Markets, he started his career in teaching with the Special Education department. He is now in the English department and currently teaches Newcomer students and English Learners (ELD). Mr. Sanchez also coaches basketball and is the MEChA club advisor. Mr. Sanchez is also active in his community. He is on the board of directors for the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP), an all-volunteer non-profit in its 43rd year of operation. Finally, Mr. Sanchez believes there are “No Accidents in the Universe,” a term borrowed from a friend, Josefina.
