Biography

P. Zitlali Morales es profesora de currículo y pedagogía en la Universidad de Illinois Chicago (UIC). Estudió en la Universidad de Stanford y después la Universidad de California, Los Ángeles donde terminó su doctorado. Es especialista de los programas de educación bilingüe y la pedagogía. Investiga cómo preparar mejor a los docentes que enseñan a los estudiantes que no hablan inglés. Sus papás vienen de Jalisco, México y es la mayor de cuatro hijas. Dr. Morales is an affiliated faculty of the Latin American and Latino Studies program at UIC. Her research focuses on the linguistic practices of Latina/o/x/e bilinguals, language education policy, and the preparation of teachers to serve racially and linguistically diverse students. She has also documented the testimonios of Latine teachers in Chicago with her research team. She has been awarded numerous grants for her work, including a Spencer Foundation large grant titled, Centering Racialized Pre-Service Teachers: A Proleptic Re-Design of Teacher Education for Leveraging Linguistic Diversity and a grant for the project Amplifying Latinx Families’ Language Education Rights: Luchando for Urban Dual Language Bilingual Education, funded by the UIC Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement. Dr. Morales previously served as the co-chair of the UIC Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Latinos (CCSL) from 2017-2019. She currently serves as the UIC coordinator for the Bilingual/ESL endorsement, and is the co-editor of the book, Transforming Schooling for Second Language Learners: Theoretical Insights, Policies, Pedagogies, and Practices by Information Age Publishing.
