Biography

Eric Kohtakangas, the Senior Executive Vice President of Operations and a Director for Cementation Canada Inc., brings a wealth of experience in mine contracting and engineering, with a career that spans back to 1986. His background encompasses many aspects of mine development and major underground mine projects. Kohtakangas has years of experience with direct site management for complex and niche underground projects, managing contracting operations, and continues to lead the successful growth of Cementation's Canadian- and internationally-based business. He has been foundational in building long-term relationships with the company's stakeholders, including with Indigenous communities across Canada. He is one of the co-founders who helped reintroduce the Cementation Group to North America in 1998. Kohtakangas graduated from the Civil Engineering D. Tech program at Fanshawe College in 1984. His previous work experience includes Geotechnical Engineering in the mining and civil/municipal fields. Throughout his professional career, Eric Kohtakangas has demonstrated his commitment to the mining and civil engineering industry. He served as an external Governor on the Board of Governors of Cambrian College, a member of Cambrian College's Mining Program Advisory Committee, and a member of the Rainbow District School Board Specialist High Skills Major Primary Industries: Mining Steering Committee. Notably, Kohtakangas is an active member of the Ontario Mining Association (OMA), where he continues to contribute to the industry's growth and development. He is passionate for miner training and serves on the Steering Committee for MiHR’s Mining Essentials training program and serves as a SME on the Project Governance Committee for the BC Centre for Training Excellence in Mining (CTEM) Underground Miner Training Program.
