UT Southwestern Medical School
Hello! My name is Haafiz Hashim, and I am a MS2 at UT Southwestern Medical School. As an undergraduate, I majored in bioengineering at Rice University, and I hope to bring my expertise in engineering and medicine together to help produce new technological solutions for glaucoma. In that vein, I am currently working in the lab of Dr. Karanjit Kooner on the Squid Glaucoma MicroShunt (SGS), a next-generation glaucoma shunt that aims to reduce complications and provide effective control of intraocular pressure. I also have an interest in AI and machine learning, as seen in my work with Dr. Anirban Maitra using machine learning to identify genes that predispose toward pancreatic cancer. I am continuing my study of AI in medical school, using convolutional neural networks to help diagnose glaucoma from optical coherence tomography angiography images.
