Biography

Mariana Castro serves as the Qualitative Research Director at the Multilingual Learning Research Center at the University of Wisconsin. She brings more than 30 years of experience in the field of education in the areas of bilingual education, language development, curriculum and instruction, teaching practices, and teacher education.  Mariana holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her current research focuses on the preparation of teachers of multilingual learners through the use of mixed-reality simulations and the use of innovative technologies and AI to support the teaching quality of multilingual learners. Mariana integrates her background as an educator, her passion for working with multilingual children, youth and their teachers, and her commitment for social justice into her work.
