Dr. Zachary Klinefelter, Scientist, Aptima, Inc. currently leads the human-centered AI development innovation area within the Intelligent Performance Analytics Division. With a background in industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology and advanced quantitative methods, his current research focuses on optimizing human-AI collaboration and developing rigorous evaluation frameworks and novel benchmarks for humans working with agentic systems. Dr. Klinefelter has led multiple DoD-funded (e.g., DARPA, USAF, ARI) projects as principal investigator and project manager in the realms of individual and team well-being, human-AI collaboration, team cognition and performance, among others. Dr. Klinefelter has recently led efforts to design novel architectures and frameworks for human-AI teaming using a human-centered approach that emphasizes the importance of contextual consideration and design principles. Dr. Klinefelter is a contributing member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Dr. Klinefelter holds degrees in psychology and Spanish and received his PhD in I-O psychology from Clemson University. US Citizen.
