Biography

Shinichi Nakayama, PhD, is a research scientist/manager for more than twenty five years in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). His interests included experimental and analytical research on geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste, applicability of partitioning-transmutation technology to radioactive waste management, and regulatory aspects of waste management. After the accident of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station in 2011, he was deeply involved in decontamination pilot project for environmental remediation of widely-contaminated residential areas in Fukushima. Since April, 2016, he is responsible for JAEA’s research and development for decommissioning of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station.
