Biography

“Dr. Simon Kirk • He studied undergraduate Mechanical Engineering at University of Cambridge, finishing in 2010 • PhD in Experimental Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, completing in 2014 • Started working at the UK Atomic Energy Authority after his PhD where he worked on various projects on Materials and Remote Handling in Nuclear Fusion Reactors, including JET and ITER. • In 2016 he was awarded a Eurofusion Engineering Fellowship to develop remote in-bore laser cutting and welding tools for use inside a nuclear fusion reactor, this is the work being presented here today.”
