Stuart obtained his MChem in Chemistry at the University of Huddersfield, UK, his Masters in Advanced Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester, UK and is currently undergoing a PhD degree at Imperial College London, UK. His thesis work, supervised by Professor Mary Ryan at the Centre for Nanotechnology, Imperial College London, is on the ‘sorption of uranium with the use of functionalised magnetic nanoparticles’ and focuses particularly on the use of superparamagnetic magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles. This work ranges from fundamental studies of the mechanism by which uranium takes when sorbed by functionalised magnetic nanoparticles to synthesising novel NP-ligand complexes for use in environmental systems.
