Biography

Dr. Volker Kunze is a nuclear physicist and got his diploma and doctorate from the university of Göttingen. Since 1995 he worked at BfS (Federal Office for Radiation Protection) in various positions being responsible for radiation protection and safety analyses for the repository projects and the licensing procedures for the interim storage facilities. From 2009 to 2013 he was project manager for the conversion of the Konrad repository. Since 2013 he was head of section Radiation Protection, Accident Analyses, Plant Security, and Safeguards. With this position he moved to the newly founded BGE (Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal) in 2017. He is now head of department Repository Safety.
