Wessam Abdelaziz is the Coordinator of Multilingual Learners Services and World Languages at Kalamazoo Public Schools. Originally from Alexandria, Egypt, he brings a global perspective and strong commitment to creating inclusive, equitable education for multilingual learners. Wessam earned his B.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Alexandria University and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Connecticut. He holds graduate degrees in Applied Linguistics and Evaluation, Measurement, and Research, a graduate certificate in Applied Statistics, and is a doctoral candidate at Western Michigan University.
With extensive teaching experience from elementary to college levels in the U.S. and abroad, Wessam has worked at institutions including Western Michigan University, Middlebury College, and the Center for Applied Linguistics. At Kalamazoo Public Schools, he develops curriculum for multilingual learners across proficiency levels and champions family and community engagement to support student success.
Wessam advocates for dedicated spaces for multilingual students, organizes Parent ESL classes, and promotes language learning through creative activities. He also connects families and youth with job opportunities, emphasizing a holistic approach to education. Outside of work, he enjoys playing and coaching soccer with his family. His expertise and passion make him a valuable leader in advancing educational equity for multilingual communities.
