Biography

Mónica Medina was born and raised in Chicago, IL with immigrant parents from SLP, México and El Salvador. She has called San Antonio, TX home for over 15 years, where she and her husband are raising their simultaneous bilingual children. Dr. Medina taught Dual Language education at the elementary and middle school levels. She served as a Bilingual Instructional Coach and Dual Language Coordinator where she worked to sustain Dual Language programming in a large urban school district. She is currently the founding Director of Primary Multilingual Programs for KIPP Texas. Dr. Medina earned a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her dissertation focused on how bilingual and bicultural administrators effectively lead Dual Language schools. She has also co-authored chapters on Dual Language in The Administration and Supervision of Programs in Education, 4th and 5th Editions.
