Biography

My name is Amparo S. Garcia-Yurchenco, I’m originally from Mexico City. I’m an educator, a musician, and an Aztec Dancer. I got my first teaching license in 2000 in Mexico City at the ENMJN (National University of Teachers). I worked in two different public schools as a kindergarten teacher before I moved to Portland in 2005. Also, as a student teacher I did my practice in public schools and in different settings such as in a Children’s editorial book, an orphanage and in a rural town in Oaxaca, Mexico. Later, here in Portland, at Portland State University, I got my second teaching license, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, an Endorsement in English as a Second Language , and my Initial Administration License. I worked for the Beaverton School District for 5 years as a Spanish DLI PK teacher and for the past 11 years I have worked for Portland Public Schools in different roles; as a Spanish DLI PK and Kindergarten teacher, as a Student Climate Specialist and as an Instructional and TechSmart Coach. Currently, I’m an Assistant Principal/Education Supervisor for PPS Head Start and this is my sixth year as an administrator.
