Dr. Elizabeth Sharpe is an Ophthalmologist who has been practicing in Charleston SC since 1985. She received her Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia and then completed a Flexible Interniship at the same institution. After completing her Ophthalmology Residency at the Storm Eye Insttitute she completed an 18 month Medical and Surgical Glaucoma Fellowship under Richard J Simmons MD in Boston. She was recruited back to the Medical University of South Carolina to develop the first Glaucoma Subspecialty Division in the Residency Training Program. She was the first Glaucoma Subspecialist in South Carolina - a state with a very high incidence of blindness from glaucoma. Dr. Sharpe has performed many roles in the advancement of Glaucoma treatment of patients and skills transfer to residents and physicians. She has held the positions of Residency Program Director at MUSC for 4 years and Chief of Ophthalmology at the VA Hospital for > 20 years. She has made multiple trips with ORBIS and has participated in numerous clinical trials and Resident Research posters and presentations. Her unwavering passion is patient care and training of others in the skills to prevent Blindness from Glaucoma.
